SUBCLASS 491 SKILLED WORK REGIONAL (PROVISIONAL) VISA

Is a points-tested visa, where the applicant needs to be nominated by a state or territory government agency, or sponsored by an eligible relative.

This is a provisional visa. You can stay in Australia for 5 years from the date we grant your visa.

You and your family unit members will need to live work and study only in a designated regional area.

ELIGIBILITY

  • have an occupation on a relevant State Government Occupation Listor be nominated by that State OR be skilled in an occupation on the MLTSSL and be sponsored by an Eligible Family Member.
  • have a suitableskills assessment for the occupation
  • be invited to apply
  • satisfy the points test whether you are applying on the basis of a State nomination or a Family Member nomination, all applicants must meet a minimum score of 65 points on a points test.
  • Have Competent English
  • Meet health and character requirements

Note: Your nomination must not be withdrawn, or you will not be granted the visa.

If eligible, you can apply for permanent residence after 3 years from the time your visa is granted.

Applicant needs to lodge an Expression of Interest through SkillSelect and be invited to submit a visa application by the Department of Home Affairs.

An applicant for a 491 visa must be issued with a nomination by their State or Territory, or obtain family sponsorship.

Once you are invited to apply for your 491 visa, you must lodge your application within 60 days.
