SUBCLASS 494 SKILLED SPONSORED REGIONAL (PROVISIONAL) VISA

Two streams – Employer Sponsored stream / Labour Agreement stream.

This is a provisional visa. You can stay in Australia for a period of 5 years from when your visa is granted.

You can live, work and study only in a designated regional area. Designated regional areas include all of Australia except for Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
(Includes regions of Newcastle, Wollongong and the NSW Central Coast other regional areas include Perth, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Canberra, Sunshine Coast and Geelong).

Your sponsor/employer will need approval from the Regional Certifying Body (RCB) in the region you would be employed.

 

ELIGIBILITY

  • be nominated to work in a specified occupation under the terms of a labour agreement (Labour Agreement stream)
  • be nominated to work in an occupation on the relevant skilled occupation list (over 700 occupations)
  • have at least 3 years relevant work experience in your nominated occupation
  • have a relevant skills assessment, if this is specified in the labour agreement (Labour Agreement stream)
    have a relevant skills assessment, unless an exemption applies
  • work only for your sponsor or associated entity, unless an exemption applies
  • work only for your sponsor (Labour Agreement stream)
  • be under 45 years of age, unless the labour agreement states otherwise (Labour Agreement stream)
  • be under 45 years of age, unless an exemption applies
  • meet minimum standards of English language proficiency

 

If eligible, you can apply for permanent residence after 3 years from the time your visa is granted.
